Real-World Math Performance Tasks (Grades 6-12)

Have you created any rich and engaging mathematical tasks for your middle school or high school students? Do you have a good answer to the age-old question of "When will I ever actually use this?" We are looking to publish more Real-World Math Performance Tasks to Goalbook Pathways, and we want to know what has worked in your classroom. Share your ideas with us and get paid doing it!

Applying to this project involves submitting a brief form with information about a real-world task you created. If accepted, we'll follow up to send you a contract and collect more information about the task.

Performance Task Criteria

​MUST-haves:
  • ​Aligns to at least one Common Core standard
  • Has a real-world connection that engages students
  • Is accessible to ALL students (think “low floor, high ceiling tasks”)
  • Can be completed in 1-2 class periods
  • Allows for multiple solution methods
  • Is original content created by you

NICE-to-haves:
  • Incorporates a writing component
  • Includes a scoring rubric
  • Elicits rich small group and/or class discussion
  • ​​Includes an engaging video clip and/or reading passage

In this Performance Task, students watch a video of Steph Curry shooting a game-winning three-pointer. They work in small groups, using the tools available to them to calculate the distance of Steph's shot.
How to Apply
  1. Complete a brief form by clicking the Apply Now button ​below. This form asks for basic information about the Real-World Math Performance Task that you have created. You are welcome to complete more than one form if you have multiple performance tasks that you would like to propose.
  2. Upon receiving your completed form, a member of our team will review your idea and let you know whether or not we would like to move forward with it.
  3. If we’d like to put your task into production, then we will send you a contract and ask you to (1) complete an additional form that provides more detailed information about the task and (2) participate in a 1-hour consultation call with a member of our team to learn more about the task and to clarify any questions.

Note: We will NOT publish any of your content or ideas without receiving your permission and signing a contract with you.
Note about Payment
Please be aware that proposing a project is no guarantee of pay. Your task submission must be accepted, and you must complete the subsequent work in order to receive payment.
