A Step-by-Step Guide
to the Content Contributor Process
I. The Submission Phase
1. Submission
The process starts with an applicant submitting a survey for an open project.
2. Review
We make sure that the right person on our editorial team reviews the submission. Sometimes we need additional information or clarification regarding a submission before we can make a final decision. If this is the case, we will send an email to the contributor with our questions. If your submission is approved you will receive an email from one of our editors with additional next steps. Once your project is approved, this moves the process to the Project Phase.
II. The Project Phase
3. Project Proposal and Contract
We share a project proposal with the contributor, and if it is the first time we are working with the contributor we also send a written contract. The project proposal will include information about:
- Requirements and deliverables
- Pay for the successful completion of the project
- Deadline date for the project
4. Project In-Progress
We encourage proactive communication from the contributor and our editing team. This way both the contributor and the editor can be sure that the requirements of the project are met and avoid more significant revision and editing later in the process.
5. Project Submission
Once the contributor feels the project is complete, the deliverables are sent to the editor. It is possible that the editor will suggest revisions for the contributor before accepting the project as completed. We will ask for 1 round of revisions at the most.
6. Project Completed
If the project requirements are met then we accept the project as completed, and the contributor is paid according to the project proposal. Our payment period is monthly, which means that the contributor should receive payment in the beginning of the month following completion.
7. Project Published
Even though we accept a project as completed, there is still work that must be done before it is published on the site. We could potentially make additional edits and enhancements to the project or choose to publish at a later date. We will notify the contributor when their work has been published.
